Studio Photography statement of intent.

Statement of Intent

Intentions and purpose of the photography
The main intentions of doing some studio photography is to widen my portfolio of work, and also to help out a friend who, has recently returned from a study trip to America.
She studied a course on make up and now requires shots to add to her portfolio, we will also in the future be doing some photo's of her for her own website.

Reason for selection of the theme
The main reason of selecting this theme is mainly to help both me and my friend develop our skills, Being a  1st time studio user, this type of work with a model, to me seemed a fairly safe way to start.
Having spoken with my friend on the type of shots she is looking for they will be a mix, of close up head shots to really show of her make up work, and full body arty posed shots.
I will be taking inspiration for this shoot, from the guys studio that I will be using, as he has previous work displayed on the walls.
And I will also be looking at and taking inspiration from images found on the internet from other make-up  artists/photographers.

The photo imaging equipment and medium I will be using
I will be using another friends Studio at his home, which is basically a portacabin, 1/3 painted out white (walls, floors, celling), with the option of using a black, pink or green backgrounds, the option to change these background I will mainly leave up to the make-up artist, however, if I have an idea, or think it may look better with a different background, I will put my ideas forward.
I will be using my camera, which is a Sony A300, with the standard 18-70mm lens, and maybe (if required) my Tamron 70-300mm lens for close up/macro shots.
I will be using my friends studio lights, of which h has 4, but i think I will only be using 2, the make of these I am not sure of yet, but will update when I find out.
I will almost certainly be using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom for post processing.

Techniques that will I be using to help convey the visual message
I will use different depths of field to produce different visual impacts, depending on the shot being taken, in the same respect I will also use different zooms/crops depending on the image being taken. I will also start with the lighting in 1 position, and then move this about to gain the effect i'm after, if needs be.

How I will apply and control the light quality to convey the visual message
I will be using a very simple set up of 2 lights, either with umbrellas or soft boxes, positioned in front of and to the left and right of the model.
The model will be about 2 meters away from the camera, and I will adjust the amount of light given out as needed, after taking and assessing shot as I go.

Health and safety risks to consider
There are a number of health and safety risks to consider, possible things to think about are tripping over cables, light stands, tripods. Burns from heat coming off the lights.
Another thing to consider would be the poses the models will be holding and how long for, as if they are particularly difficult this could cause muscle strain or fatigue.
