Assignment 211 Task 1b

There are many different ways that Photo images can be displayed. Digital images can be put on a blog or website, which with the digital era of photography has become a lot easier and more popular.
The ways of viewing digital images has also become more wide and varied, from computers, Tablets, Digital photo frames and even smart phones.
The downfall to the digital ways of presenting images mean you need to have some for of hardware to present them on. So you need to either have on you a smart phone, iPad, Tablet, Laptop, or to be sat at a computer, also if you digital images are online, you will also need some form of Internet connection, which isn't always available.
You could also suffer from data corruption whilst uploading, or indeed total loss if they are placed/saved on a server.

Another way of presenting photo images is in a physical form, so printed, they can be printed in many different ways, using different materials to print onto, i.e Paper (which has many different textures/finishes), canvas, advertising banners, even down to T-Shirts, mugs and key rings.
The size of which they are printed should also be considered as well, whether it's a 6x4 glossy photo, or a Matt finish on a billboard/advertising board on the side of the building.
The downsides to a physical photo is they can get damage, either by being creased or torn, having liquids split on them causing colours to run, or they can fade under harsh/extended time in direct sunlight.

Another way to present photo's could also be a story book or photo album. This again has many things to consider, from the size of the album, the layout of the album, even the type of paper needs to be considered, as this can affect the overall finish/feel of the image.
The biggest downside I can see to having an album would be the overall bulk/size and needing room to store them.

Once you have decided how to present your images, you can then start to think about the overall look/feel/finish, for example, if they are on your website they would generally be boarder less, maybe with a shadow underneath to make them stand off the page slightly, if however you were going to display them in a gallery, maybe a solid frame, with a solid colour border around the images would be considered to give it that extra attraction.

Online
The various ways  of online presentation can be from:
A blog such as Blogger that I'm using here, A modelling website such as Purestorm, Model Mayhem, Madcow models etc.

A photo presentation website such as Flickr, Redbubble etc.

Even down to social network sites like Facebook or Edmodo.

The other online way to be considered is also a personal or business website. The images put onto one of these site would be used for advertising purposes, to show off your  previous work in order to gain some future business.

Printing
So printing your photo's can be done in so many different ways, at home on your ink jet printer, using an online service, or even a high street developer.
With compact digital cameras available in most price ranges, pretty much every one has one, and the same can be said for computers and printers, so the option to print at home, using something like the image below, is now as well pretty much available to everyone.

There are a few draw backs to this method though, depending on the quality of your printer, your ink and paper, will determine how good the overall finish of the photo is. In my opinion, even the high end gloss paper brought for home use, (see image) still doesn't give the professional finish you get from a developer on the high street or Internet.

There are higher quality printers available for public purchases/personal use, they do tend to cost more to buy and run though.
An example of this would be the Epsom Stylus Pro 3880

For me and my budget it is more beneficial to use an online printing service,  such as One Vision, Vistaprint or photobox.

The different options they now offer is wide, from normal prints using different paper finishes, to posters, calenders, photo albums, t-shirts cups and even Key rings.
Advantages of using online printing services are, when ordering in bulk the cost can be down to 5p an image, which compared to buying paper and ink for your own printer, it's pretty comparable. you also have the option of you can order 24/7.

Framing
If you have chosen to print your images, you now have the option to frame them, there are many various different styles of framing.
The options of how to frame them again can be,  a standard frame brought from a shop, A frame purchased for one of the online printing services, (Photobox for sure offer this) or lastly having a bespoke frame made.

The above image is a screen grab of the Photobox framing page, this shows different photo's of the frame and also to the right of there image, there is a size/price guide.

The above image here is a screen grab from a website that offers, not only standard frames, but also a bespoke frame making service.

There are numerous companies who solely make and supply frames for customers and there photo's, artwork or mirrors.
The variety of frames range from:

Simple wooden frame.

A deep box frame.

A slightly more detailed wooden frame.

Clever frames.

Plastic/acrylic frames

Very Ornate and elaborate Frames.

There is even the option of applying a frame to a digital image as show above.
