Theme 2 Research 5 Perry Curties

So the second photographer I'm using for my research is Perry Curties.

I am finding it hard to find out much about Perry Curties himself though, I have found that he has his own website though this is lacking any form of biography. the link to his site is http://www.perrycurties.com/
He also has a facebook page, but again this has very little information about him. The link is https://www.facebook.com/perrycurtiesphotographer?sk=wall

Perry is a fashion, Portrait and advertising Photographer and has been since 2001.

I have also found that he is one of the founding members of the magazine 125.

This image shows a use of the rule of two thirds, with the model being positioned to the right of the image. The models face is also the main focal point of image, there is a small range of colours from the blue/green in the background, to the pink lipstick, to the skin colour and the blacks of her hair and the background.
The depth of field is shallow, to allow the model to be in Sharpe focus, with the background being out of focus yet the colour is still able to be made out.
It has quite a dark contrast, with only the models shoulders and half face being lit up.

This image is again quite dark, with a dark contrast, lots of shadows and blacks.  I think the main focal point is the make up around the models eyes, before you move down to the neck wear, and then down to she is topless.
It is framed quite close to make sure the model/the make up around the eyes is the only focus, and that your not distracted by the background.
The range of colour is limited to whites/blacks/greys and then a little bit of red over the right eye.

This image is a lot brighter than the previous 2 images, with a much brighter contrast, a lot more whites and highlights, with limited shadows and blacks.
I would say the image has a use of lines, from her long legs, to her arms both connected at the hands and being pushed out straight.
The frame is slightly wider than the previous, so that you get the whole of her body in shot.
The main focal point of this image is the make up around the models eyes, even though this is quite a small detail on the image, then the lines of her arms locked out straight lead you down the image to the thigh high white boots.
The composition of this image is a simple one, using the plain white background and the model to make up the image.

This image uses a shallow depth of field to the point of the models top being out of focus, leaving just the models face/hand in focus to ensure it becomes the main focal point of the image. The contrast is fairly dark, from the dark black in the bottom right from the models top, to the brightness of the models face/hand, there is still a lot of shadows, black hair and even the blue background is fairly dark.
On 1st sight it looks like there is not a lot of colour in the image, but as you look more, there are dots of colour on the top which stand out well on there black background.
The frame is quite tight to make sure that your attention is on the face/make-up/hair/general style of the image.
There is also a few different textures in this image, there is the hat, the hair, the skin, the stones in the ring, and then the multiple textures of the top being material and the little beads of colour.
The composition of this image is again fairly simple, single colour background, slight hint of the chair and the model.

This image unlike the last one has a much brighter contrast to it, very little in the way of shadows, dark areas or blacks.
I think there may be a use of shapes in this image, the shapes being Circle's, both the earrings and the pattern on the background, and to a certain extent, her ears have a roundness to them. I think the expression and therefore the models face are possibly the main focal point of the image
The Tonal range in the image is also wider than the previous image, although there isn't many more actual colours, the range of them is higher, as the background is mainly purple, but I would say there is at least 4 shades of it.
The composition of this image isn't to dis-similar to the previous 2 images, although the background isn't a singular colour it is quite plain and the only other elements making up the image is the model.
I think the crop of the image is done to make the model look like she is leaning further back than she is, but it is, much like the previous image close framed to make sure that the model fills the shot and is the main focus.

This image is pretty close to black and white, with the only real hint of colour being the Lipstick on the model and the brown table/desk that she is lying on. It has a look of an earlier era about it, somewhere like the 1930's-50's. The composition being a bit more complicated than the previous 2-3 images, and that come really from just having a more detailed background.
I would say the contrast is more towards the darker side, with the white walls/doors in the background being almost grey when compared to the models dress.
I think there is a use of the triangle shape here, obviously the legs make a big one, but then when you look at the position of the arms, from above they would also be in a form of triangle shape.
With the position of the legs, they literally stand out, and this makes them the focal point, and they lead you nicely down the model.
The depth of field is closer to the shallow side in my opinion, thought the doors in the background can be made out, they are out of focus, with the 2 black handles almost merging into one black dot.

This image is again almost black and white, I think the only hint of colour is in the background, where there might be a slight tint of blue, and this mixed with the light skin tone of the model makes this image have an overall cold feel to it.
Not sure if there is a use of shapes, though I can see, squares on the curtains, a square mirror, and the arms and legs also have a form close to right angles, which make up squares.
The contrast is very dark, with only the models face, arms and legs being the highlights of this image.
I think it was probably a shoot to advertise the jewellery, which it does well as they are in the highlighted areas, making them stand out from the darker background of the mirror.
The depth of field is also a shallow one, again making sure the model and the products she is wearing be the main focal point of the image.
There are again a few different texture to this image, The material on the stool she is sat on, then the curtains against the stone looking wall and the dress and Jewellery against the skin.
The composition is fairly complicated, with at least 4-5 elements making up the whole image.

This image has a great use of textures, 2-3 different materials on the Dress the model is wearing and then numerous different materials on the sofa and cushions, also the shinny white bag in the bottom right corner.
The overall contrast seems to be quite dark, although the model and most of the sofa is well lit, the materials and there colours are still dark and plain?
I think the Photographer has positioned the models arms in such a way that it almost copies the Diamond shaped panel's on the cushion to her left, each arm making up one side of the diamond.
although there are only a few components to this image, (model, sofa, cushions, bag) all the different shapes, patterns, textures actually make it more complicated than all the previous images I have looked at from Perry.
I think the way the lighting is used to highlight the model makes her the focal point, again this was probably a fashion shoot, so the idea would of been to show off the dress, bag, jewellery etc.
Quite a wide frame to allow you to see the model and the sofa, and the depth of field is hard to make out due to the background being completely black, though the content to the left of the image is just as in focus as the model so I would say a fairly deep one.

This image is dark with a cool/cold feel to it from the bluey light, I would say like the above image there is a use of lines, from the walls/openings in the background to the model being stood straight up, with her legs straight and even the shadow off her legs creating lines on the floor.
Again I would say this would of been shot for a magazine to advertise either the Jewellery or the dress, or maybe even both.
It has a quite a wide frame, so the model can been seen to be somewhere rather than just in a studio, yet she remains the main focal point of the image.
The overall feel of the image is quite dark, yet there is a lot of light in the image with the model well lit, even the floor and some of the walls are light and stand out against the blacks, This said I think the contrast is biased to the darker side, due to the walls in the background that would be white have the hint of blue to them.
The depth of field is quite deep, not only is the model in focus but so is most of the background.

This image uses light to really make it stand out, with the massive contrast between one side of the models face being lit up and the other half being completely in shadow.
Shot in landscape to allow the light and dark areas to stand out, this also helps the attention be drawn to the Necklace.
The main focal point is either the models face or the Necklace, I think it's the face 1st then your eyes move down the Necklace.
Like the image above it has a very cool feel to it, with the lighter areas being more blue than white, it's contrast is also similar to the previous image, although there is alot of light in the image, the contrast has been moved more to the darker end of the scale.
The composition of this image is fairly simple, a model a wall and Jewellery are really the only parts that make up the image.
